I don't want to restart this thread. I just want to point out
that the famous matrix bench from Shootout that has been talked
out here is now running a bit faster with GNU/Ada than GNU/C
and GNU/C++. I have contributed a new version. The 4 time slower
was because the Ada program was poorly written and the Ada options
passed to the compiler were not the same used for GNU/C and GNU/C++.
This is a proof for nothing except maybe that GNU/Ada is not
inherently slow.
