Recompiling?

I have played around with Ada for some time on Linux, but it seems
every time I upgrade the compiler I have to recompile (or possibly
re-link?) my programs.
It's a bit worrying that all my binaries stop working every time.
Anyone know why this happens, and if anything can be done about it?
