pmode "Segment to Descriptor" function

Hi,
Protected mode function, int 31h/002h (Segment to Descriptor)
has a caution concerning the inability to free or modify the descriptor
which is returned. Does this mean that the machine needs to be
re-booted before the descriptor is available again or just that the
app needs to be closed ?
