Beth,
For about 18 years now, I have had a dream of helping to decentralize
the OS market. It is the Microsoft dominance that I see as unhealthy
as retarding progress. I would like to see a few hundred OS vendors
who strive to be compatible with the public-domain protocols on the
Internet. These vendors could easily overtake 50% of the market
(collectively) because real needs are so diverse. Parallel
processing, robotics, chemical process control, instant-on appliances,
and literally thousands more areas would not be thinking in terms of
one standard OS on one standard hardware platform. Computing devices
and even operating systems on common PCs would more readily utilize
the imagination of small business instead of buying into proprietary
standards that are worse than useless.
Thank you for reading my harrang.
