Just installed XP on a new PC. After installing the OS and the
drivers and the Windows update, the "System Volume Information"
was more than 1.5 GByte big. Seems XP saves all file system
modifications in this directory for a later undo. Wasn't
courageous enough to delete the directory on the system
partition yet but did so on a data partition. One file was in use,
so I booted win98 (it is always a good idea to install DOS6
and a (minimal) Win98 version before installing XP) to delete
the complete directory.

But only if you use NTFS. I don't like it, when WINDOWS tells
me, that I'm not allowed to inspect my own disk drive, therefore
I prefer FAT32.

Not 100% dummy:

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
BootMenu=1
DoubleBuffer=1
AutoScan=1
WinVer=4.10.2222
;
;The following lines are required for compatibility with other programs.
;Do not remove them (MSDOS.SYS needs to be >1024 bytes).
