I'm interested to hear more about this too.
Even I'm the only 'admin' here, I don't know details on XP internals,
all I figured out so far is that XP doesn't support
8-bit colour graphic's without altering compatibility-flags.

Mmh..?,
the CPU wont care much about calling GDI32.DLL 'or' a Console-API ;) :)
