Try using boot manager. Yesterday I was unable to boot a very unstable
frankenstein's linux (half Gentoo, half not, eep!) off my very unstable
(works for half an hour usually) CD drive. No dice, until I downloaded
a boot floppy image which claimed to be able to get a system to boot
from any device. And it did, without even breaking into a sweat.
Alas I've forgotten what it was called, and overwritten the floppy
already, but it dropped out of google very swiftly -- Something like
'Smart boot loader', IIRC.
