I read somewhere that parts of Office2003 was rewritten using the .NET
framework, so installing an update to the .Net framework is probably a good
thing. Most people seem to forget that the .Net framework is a lot like
DirectX, it's just an add-on library that provides additional functionality.
(It's no way related to DirectX, just using it as an example). Including
.NET within SP2, is just one of those things that will make life easier for
Joe User Six-pack. PITA for us, but not for them.

IIRC. the account is used by the ASP engine built into IIS, to provide .NET
extensions, and is used as the account that executes ASP.NET applications.
You only need this account, if you are running IIS on your local box, and
also running ASP.NET applications within IIS on your local box.
The purpose of the account is to provide ASP.NET applications a user account
to run under, (It's not possible to run applications under the
IUSER_<machine> account in IIS, so MS provides a user account for those apps
to run under). IIRC in the default configuration is that account is
sandboxed into IIS for security reasons.

I suggest you take off your tin-foil hat. ASP.NET is server-side, and has
nothing to do with the client, (unless your using custom ActiveX controls).
