To try and dilute the folklore growing around this particular licence
from Microsoft, the licence is perfectly clear as to who has right to
use it and the right to redistribute it.
Status of EULA
This document shall serve as an addendum ("Addendum") to the Microsoft
End User License Agreement ("EULA") you acquired with version 6.0 or
later of any of the Microsoft products listed below.
Visual Studio
Visual C++
Visual J++
Visual Basic
Visual FoxPro
Visual SourceSafe
Visual InterDev
Distribution Rights
4. Microsoft also grants you the nonexclusive right to copy and
distribute the Service Pack to any validly licensed end user of any of
the products listed above.
The issues raised by a number of people have no relationship to the
status of the licence, the software or its distribution.
The kirwin site links directly to Microsoft where the legal right of
access to the service pack are clearly stated. Microsoft place the
onus of responsibility with the person who downloads the software to
fully comply with the EULA. Contrary to the views stated by Herbert in
this newsgroup, Microsoft are NOT guilty of software piracy by makng
this download available across the internet, even though an
unscrupulous person may download it without having the legal right to
do so.
The right of distribution is contained in the EULA for the processor
pack and ANYONE who owns a copy of the above mentioned products have
the legal right to distribute the processor pack to other legal users
of the above mentioned products. Following the precedent set by
Microsoft on their own site, the responsibility of compliance with the
EULA for the processor pack lies with the person downloading the
software.
