I tend to prefer .CHM for electronic use, simply because it's more
handy, and the htmlhelp viewer is a bit lighter than most browsers.
That, and the indexing features are nice.

I got the impression it's not just because of the sloppy (as always)
Adobe code, but something to do with the file format as well?
