Considering the source of a typical GPL application, one gets
the impression that time is not the reason for lacking/poor
documentation - it's lack of skill. No, I don't expect a single
developer sitting in his (parents'?) basement to write code
of a professional quality. But most of that open-sores code is
really repulsive.

Don't need docs to use their own projects? That's one thing. Not
properly documenting their code is another. And I'm not talking
about source code comments here (though better comments would
help as well) - I'm talking about proper project documetation.
