The code still has to be licensed under GPL, though, and other
possible legal issues (like what the use of third-party libraries
could bring) also have to be fulfilled. And the author can still
branch the code and release under a different license.
But sure, you lose control of the code that you release under GPL,
and you cannot take modifications made by other people and include
that in a different-licensed release (hmmm, I wonder how dual-license
companies like MySQL handles this?)

Hm, restricted redistribution? Basically, you're allowed to release
both modified source and modified binaries (without source), as long
as you include the FASM license and credit Tomasz for the work, and
don't remove copyright notices for the source. Beats GPL by far.
