Synonyms are very important, and in spite of the fact that I try to use
them liberally, I often got complaints because I had not included some
user's preferred choice. For example, in "Monster Rally", it is necessary
to load a firearm with a bullet. As synonyms, I provided "ammo", "lead",
"shell", and "silver". However, one user got upset because the parser did
not understand "load firearm with round".
On the other hand, limiting movement to a small subset of the compass
points is far too restrictive. For example, suppose I want to do a "lady or
the tiger" routine, by having two (or more) doors in the same wall?

Of course, but you're talking like I am trying to write a game from
scratch, rather than to improve an existing one. You could help me a lot
more, if you would cite specific examples from Elsinore, and suggest how I
could improve them.
