Hi,

Before you do anything else, please watch the following short movie:

Thank you...

[ or the Americanised version (American-friendly celebrities...plus, they
seem to think you require the message in a more "positive" vein - with the
word "America" inserted at appropriate junctures to show its "patriotic" -
or you'd ignore it or something):

http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/flash/oneword.swf ]

No donations of charity money are required this time...truth is, you've paid
what is necessary in your taxes already...

What is required is your _VOICE_:

The G8 leaders promised to tackle world poverty at their last meeting...they
set out a plan and made a goal of halving world poverty by 2015...

As with the Tsunami, they make large promises - which they could deliver -
while the media watches...but then wholly go back on their promises, come up
short on the promised changes and then return to the status quo...

They broke their promise...they failed to keep with their plan...

When they meet again soon, in Scotland, if millions of voice speak as one,
then they will be forced to hear it...the G8 have already agreed to, again,
place the issue on the table for discussion...we must speak as ONE VOICE so
that they are in no doubt as to what we require of them...

This is NOT charity, your _VOICE_ is all that's required...

This is NOT politics, it's basic MORALITY: People are dying unnecessarily
from a man-made artifical disaster that does not need to exist...we could
stop that...this is what it boils down to...

As Nelson Mandela explains here:
http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/flash/mandela.swf

....the idea is three-fold:

1. Introduce FAIR TRADE; Allow these developing countries to be able to
trade with others, without unfair tariffs and taxes making it
impossible...this is NOT charity here, it's basic _FAIRNESS_...currently,
Africans and others in poverty are quite delibrately prejudiced
against...with "blocks", "tariffs", "taxes" and similar that are applied in
a "protectionist" manner (for example, in a TV documentary with Bob Geldof
touring Africa, he showed a poor village with broken shacks for homes, who
were harvesting and processing coco and cola nuts...yes, the main
ingredients for that popular drink called "Coco-cola" (as well as a whole
host of other things), drunk by 55 million or so daily...this is their
produce which they have to sell...but the "trade rules" mean that these
people cannot sell it at _FAIR_ price...so, while they live in poverty and
broken shacks, an American multi-national sells their produce to become one
of the richest companies on Earth...these rules exist to _KEEP THESE PEOPLE
POOR_...they are unfair and unjustified...anti-competitive, anti-capitalist
and exactly NOT "free market" trade whatsoever...Africa has much it could
sell but it is simply delibrately prohibited from getting FAIR price for
it)...

2. CANCEL DEBT; Africa has been a troubled nation...dictators would come,
borrow vast sums of money that are impossible to repay...and then they
leave...the country left crippled by that debt...in some cases, the
"interest" on the debt exceeds what the country can repay...hence, it is
simply impossible to ever clear the debt...it's a poverty trap with no
escape...we can afford it...so, cancel the debt and start afresh...with the
FAIR TRADE above and the impossible debt removed, Africa can concentrate on
getting itself out of its situation...

3. AID; Yes, some more charity aid...but this is to help them begin their
journey in setting up their businesses and "patching" over the time it takes
before they are truly clear of poverty once and for all...if the above FAIR
TRADE and CANCELLED DEBT are achieved, then this aid money would then
represent _INVESTMENT_...not more "throw away" money, as the aid we pay now
actually is (it's quite silly...we keep them in poverty with one hand and
give out aid with the other...if we stop keeping them in poverty, then we'd
not need to supply aid anymore...and all that money we currently effectively
"throw away", fighting our own stupid trade laws, could then be recovered -
if there were no poverty in the world - to be used on our own needs)...

Granted, this "plan" isn't necessarily going to work without "hiccups",
perhaps...but it'll go a very long way, if not the final "cure" to this
problem, once and for all...

Every three seconds, a person dies from extreme poverty...

A thousand or so every hour...

Hence, every three hours and you have more death than 9/11...

Every week and you have an Asian Tsunami of deaths...

Every year, millions of deaths...

Click...click...click...

The cost of preventing this CAN be easily afforded by the rich nations (they
already promised they could do it before and said it was quite possible:
They just need to be _HELD_ to that promise to actually _DO IT_...and not
"wimp out" the second the media cameras are turned off and they think voters
have "forgotten" that it won't effect their votes, just to carry on letting
people die needlessly)...we would no more notice the money gone than we do
the many billions gone into Iraq...or the hundreds of millions raised for
the Tsunami...we magic up the money easily, when we want to, if there is a
war or natural disaster...the same effort to eradicate an unnecessary
man-made problem of our own invention...and, then, note, the money we spend
on aid would increasingly be no longer necessary and vastly reduced and
returned back: It's a case of spending the money where it does long-term
_PERMANENT_ good, rather than pointless short-term nothingness that is
"undone" by our very own hands six months later...

It's your money...you have a perfect right to _VOICE_ how you would wish
them to use it...

For the UK, the G8 conference is being held in Scotland...and you probably
already know about "Sir" Bob's "Long Walk to Justice" to march to Edinburgh,
to make a "presence felt" there...there's some other stuff you can do,
though, if you didn't win any of the Live8 tickets:

http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/getinvolved/index.shtml

Plus, of course, as mentioned, there will be the Live 8 concerts too
(currently now up to 10 concerts)...

Did you work it out yet? How many entire families needlessly died while you
were reading this?

P.S. Check out the "Orange" tongue-in-cheek movie at the bottom here:

http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/video/

....it's the "Orange movie guys" from the cinema adverts (for those who don't
know about this, the Orange mobile phone company runs their amusing
adverts - with famous stars "pitching" their film ideas to "Orange", who
totally miss the point and always make something "Orange / mobile phone"
related out of it that totally sucks...with the awful pun: "don't let your
mobile phone ruin the movie, turn it off!" - just before movie is shown
:)...

Also, especially for Annie, there is also a special movie just for her
too...featuring Bono! Her all-time favourite pop star! ;)
