Umm... First, if you don't mind, I'd like to post a friendly, obligatory "nit" to correct a couple of minor errors.
Trying to silence her, eh? :)
touring Africa, he showed a poor village with broken shacks for homes, who were harvesting and processing coco and cola nuts...yes, the main ingredients for that popular drink called "Coco-cola" (as well as a whole host of other things), drunk by 55 million or so daily...this is their
First, they are "kola" nuts and they haven't been used to flavor carbonated drinks since the invention of artificial flavorings.
Second, they are "coca" (as in cocaine) nuts but it is the leaf which is imported (about 220 tons) for the making of the Coca-Cola(TM) brand drinks.
Right. Let us not become confused between "cocoa" (a product of Africa) and "coca" (a product of South America, and the source of cocaine). Different plants, entirely. You're right that it was the leaves (I'm not sure coca *has* nuts) which used to be an ingredient of Coca-Cola(tm) - long ago. Then for many years, coca leaves from which the cocaine had been extracted were used (I have no idea why!). AFAIK, modern Coca-Cola(tm) doesn't contain any coca leaves. I don't know how recent the 220 ton figure is, but I don't *think* it's going into Coca-Cola(tm). Perhaps some other soft drink? 220 tons wouldn't go far, in any case :)
Best, Frank .
