The issue isn't whether H-L-L would be preceded by "an" or "a", there
is no question that if you pronounce this by spelling out the letters,
an "an" belongs in front of it. The real question is "do people
pronounce this 'H-L-L' when reading it, or do they mentally pronounce
it at 'high-level-language' when reading it?" In the latter case, it's
more natural to put an 'a' in front of "HLL" rather than an 'an'.
