Real Mode

Well, yes so they say now... Previously it was enough for the whole
operating system to be run in Real Mode with a bunch of the
applications.

Now they call "protected" a mode that is not really protected... well,
according to the book it is protected for 8086 code, but what we see is
complete lack of protection for 32 bit code (or can't they use it? or
is it just a modern way to choose names for the things that aren't
really for what they are?) The protection is yet to come... hopefully,
in theory, maybe...

Intel worked closely with Microsoft (so the logs say), and I suppose
Intel created a microprocessor to run Windows, that's why all other
independent OS developers face a wall of ridiculous design :)

True protection does not require Operating System (at least not of such
type). OS is obsolete and redundant.

Perhaps there are some anti-monopoly laws that restrict Microsoft from
buying both Intel and AMD, but I suppose there are other ways for
Microsoft to control those "giants" :)
