I've seen this before. I assume this has something to do with God?

Well, I'm not going to get all personal again. That goes nowhere
except squabble. I'll look at this objectively, I talk to you as a
person, neither religious or non-religious. Just stating an
interesting fact that I found out while surfing the net.

Being religious has a profound effect on your health.
A *scientific* study:
http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/abstract/161/12/2303
====
CONCLUSIONS: Religious affiliation is associated with less
suicidal behavior in depressed inpatients. After other factors
were controlled, it was found that greater moral objections
to suicide and lower aggression level in religiously affiliated
subjects may function as protective factors against suicide
attempts.
====

IMO, 371 patients is too small a sample size. Unfortunatly, I
don't feel like paying the $25 to learn more about this study, see
if it could have any bias or whatnot. So take it or leave it. I
personally haven't seen any scientific study that shows the
opposite however, and you are welcome to show me one. (i'd be
interested in seeing one)

Another source:
http://health.discovery.com/centers/aging/staying_young/spirit.html
=====
Religion is among the factors that have been extensively studied.
People who attend religious services are healthier, live longer and
become less depressed as a result of illness, according to most
studies, and they handle stress better.
=====

And for those who don't know, discovery channel is not a religious
organization. It tends to give pure scientific data, so yeah, I'm
pretty
sure it is a reliable source. Of course, you are welcome to disagree.

Wikipedia even has a small part of the Religion article that shows
"practical benifits". Here is a permenent Link so that no one
changes this article before you read it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Religion&oldid=34622725

===== Wikipedia quote =====
Religions may sometimes provide breadth and scale for visionary
inspirations in compassion, practical charity, and moral restraint.
Christianity is noted for the founding of many major universities, the
creation of early hospitals, the provision of food and medical
supplies to the needy, and the creation of orphanages and schools,
amongst other charitable acts. Many other religions (and
non-religious organisations and individuals, eg: humanistic Oxfam)
have also performed equivalent or similar work.
======================

Supposedly Wikipedia is as accurate as Encyclopedia Britanica, so
I'll believe this one. Not to mention, it confirms the other 2
articles.

So even if you don't believe in it, you gotta agree; being religious
has heath benifits.

As far as an actual "Does God exist" battle? Nah, it can't be proved,
it can't be disproved. Science cannot test faith, no matter how much
we wanna try, so thats why I'm not going to go down that direction.
(If some guy finds a way, then I would be curious to read up on it)

Finally: some religious guy does not effect me. The religon of Islam
does not effect me (except historically, as I believe it were the
muslims who archived all the Greek and Roman data during the
Dark Ages). It is the *person* Osama Bin Ladin who effects me,
and I should not blame religon to be the cause, as obviously he
has more issues than that.

People beliving in Creationism does not effect me even if I don't
believe in it. I have to learn to put up with nutcases anyway, so
children might as well learn to put up with it as well. One of the
things people need to learn is when to reject something
respectfully to mature anyway. Not to mention, large amounts of
Scientific data are discovered to be wrong each year, even
if they were considered the truth. (Recently disproven scientific
stuff: The human "Tongue map", stages of death, and now
Freud is supposedly falling "out of fashon" with psychologists)
One more incorrect thing that is taught, that has nearly *nothing*
to do with day-to-day life does not effect me, or anyone for
that matter.

Again, you are welcome to disagree with me. I love it when
people disagree with me, because it shows that I still have
more to learn. Learning how incorrect you are yourself is
probably the fastest ways to learn.
