What an appropriately vague question. I think you're missing the point
if you think HLA "competes" against other languages. It's simply a
tool, and as a programmer you choose the tool that best fits the
problem you're trying to solve. As such, it's not possible to
objectively compare HLA against another language without the proper
context, just as it's not possible to compare *any* two languages
objectively without being explicit about the context.

So what problem are you trying to solve that HLA is suitable for?
