Re: 12 Misconceptions

{How do I put this politely?} All too often, people resort to using
phrazes like "I'm a professional" or "I've X years experience" in a
pathetic attempt to magically transform their *misconceptions* into
fact. It sometimes worries us "over-the-hill" folk when your
generation barks out empty defeatist platitudes like: "you can't do
that with character files"

What is "pathetic" or let's say "misplaced", is that you, the self
called "over-the-hill folk" ( *laughs* ) still don't understand the
difference between a flat character file, and a binary formated file...
Take a .txt or .csv file on one hand, a .mp3 file on the other, then
you'll eventually discover the difference between both kind of files..
Don't assume that you can describe every file the same way.

It is alarming that 10 years wasn't enough
for you to be introduced to the concept of a database.

I'm sorry, but it has nothing to do with the main discussion : files.
Besides, databases aren't anything stranger for me, If you'd take the
time to do a search on my person over the internet, you'd see I've
helped various people with DBMS problems, since I've worked with most
known databases, of which Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, PostGreSQL, MySQL,
and some more...

Search Google
(or Wiki if you prefer) for "dbms" and you will even discover some
object-oriented db languages which will probably fit your speed.

A "db language" ? :) How funny is it to see you talk about something
you obviously don't know. It's called a querying language, with the
widely known and used one called "SQL", Structured Query Language; Did
you hear about that yet in your quest for IT knowledge ? Or maybe you
are talking about the procedural languages, used to create stored
procedures or functions ?? I doubt you are talking about anything
actually, just throwing powder to make me believe you know anything
about the domain; But I ain't a fool.

And let me tell you that most companies don't use object oriented
databases, because they are hard to maintain and not much scalable.
Have you heard about "ORM" systems ? Object Relational Mapping. Check
out for Hibernate or Ibatis to have an idea about what I'm talking
about...

And
to dis-abuse yourself about the nature of O-O, I suggest a solid read:

Randall Hyde is a god for you, isn't he ? Well, everybody needs a god,
and most of us are probably mistaken. But Randall Hyde is nothing close
to a god when talking about Object Oriented programming, since he's
clearly not involved in those technologies, as he said it himself. He
for sure has university knowledge about IT in general, but that's not
enough to call him an "expert" at everything related to IT, eventually
he is an expert teacher, but I doubt he even could consider himself an
expert "on the ground". I suggest you to go and work with real Object
Oriented Systems to understand the extent of the paradigm, and the
power of the analysis used in this matter, read some books about RUP
and UML, eventually about Design Patterns when you'll know a bit more,
then you can come back, and we can discuss like 2 instructed persons
about the Object Oriented Paradigm; Until then, I feel like I'm talking
alone.

Happy Assembling,

Nathan.

I have nothing against you Nathan. I've seen a first post of yours
which was aggressive towards my person, therefore there was no more
reason for me to respect someone who disrespects me, especially knowing
that you were quite wrong in your assumptions. I also think that you
are too much blinded by HLA and the person of Randall Hyde; Try to take
a look to the horizon, there is much more things to discover than this.

Cheers
K
