Hi,

Do you realize that "moderation" is up to anyone who reads the
newsgroup, and not only to those who hate René ?

Please re-read the post. You'll note that I said that applying some
sort of moderation device is valid for any off-topic post, not just
censoring Rene. That is, anything that may not be of general interest,
attach something to the subject line (I've chosen "///") and people who
aren't interested in reading the off-topic posts can elect to ignore
them.

If you hate René, you can very well yourself moderate your way of
viewing the newsgroup,

You really don't get it, do you?
The point isn't to set it up so I can't view the posts, but to make it
easy for *others* who don't want to read the posts to opt out of the
discussion.

but encouraging some sort of discrimination
towards someone,

Most people around here don't want to read Rene's junk. Alas, simply
putting Rene in their kill file is insufficient, because the newsgroup
get's filled up with responses to Rene's junk. Hence the idea of
something in the subject line that can be used as a trigger to filter
out posts.

Most people around here don't want to read the Hutch vs. f0dder wars.
Alas, simply putting Hutch and f0dder in in their kill files doesn't
work well because, unlike Rene, Hutch and f0dder actually *do*
contribute useful stuff to this newsgroup on a regular basis. Adding
something like "///" to the subject line of the warring posts allows
people to opt out that aren't interested.

This subthread is probably of little interest to people. It's just a
personal attack on me. Adding "///" to the subject line allows
uninterested parties to opt out of the discussion if they don't want to
waste their time.

just because you don't like him, is totally wrong and
out of question, not even was it permitted in moderated newsgroups,
where only "irrelevant" messages could be removed, and not the ones
"coming from this or that individual".

Check out the history of CLAX sometime...

Besides, Betov has always posted relevant messages, with assembly
related ideas and helpful messages.

Ha!
His signal to noise ratio is *well* below 1% around here. What parallel
universe version of ALA have you been reading? Please let me know, I
want to go visit there sometime.

In the end of the day, if a decision is made to "voluntary moderate"
Betov, the same should be done for you, since you flame him as much as
he does to you, even if you are careful not to go into personal attacks
to protect your image, your often subtle way of saying things clearly
evokes your own state of mind about Betov, which is probably
reciprocal.

Uh, putting "///" into my subject lines is *explicitly* telling people:
"don't read this if you're not interested in flames, off-topic posts,
and junk like that." IOW, I am voluntarily accepting moderation of
*my* post. The reason for doing this is that, unlike Rene, I actually
*do* post quite a bit of assembly language related stuff around here
and people *do* want to read those posts. I'm giving them an easy way
to opt out of *my* posts that they might not want to read. IOW, *I am
the one being moderated here*.

People of the newsgroup, don't let *anyone* give you insights on how
you should read a newsgroup, or the internet, or to a larger extent, on
how to rule your life.

And guess what? If they *want* to read the posts, they still can. The
fact that "///" appears in the subject line in no way prevents them
from doing so. Despite what a few distractors might thing around here,
some of us find Rene's little running war quite humorous and some
people actually *like* reading the posts. They can elect *not* to kill
them, should they choose. That's the beauty of the scheme. Those who
don't want to wade through crap to find a few jewels here and there can
immediately skip all messages that contain "///" in the subject line.
Those who like all the gossipy innuendo and what-not can still get
their fill, which they wouldn't be able to do in a moderated newsgroup.
Sounds like a win-win to me.

You are the only ones who have the choice to
read or not to read content, and to agree or not to the given opinions.

Isn't that obvious?
Cheers,
Randy Hyde
