There is also the problem of momentum to overcome. I see a trendgoing
towards VHLL languages. Pretty soon, programming is going to be done
with drag and drop components with little actual knowledge required.
I program with drag and drop, but i still program in assembly.
I generate assembly code for wizard output.
I generate assembly code for scripts.
That's not what I meant by drag and drop. I was thinking of Java beans
and friends.
I have not even taken a look at Java yet. Which one is best for a
testspin, you think?
Sure, assembly may always be necessary in that respect. But that alone
will not bring assembly to the mainstream. Just like now, there will
be a few who program in it entirely and some who dabble in it but many
who don't know anything about it.
I would guess that once a few real useful applications, some serious once,
other the RosAsm will be written and if those will prove able to compete,
on user terms with HLL apps, we will see the beginning of asm rebirth.
I allready can output a texteeditor in one click, and two in two clicks.
You should also be able to do the same with your "SavageEd". I guess you
are limited by time. I have tested SavageEd, and it is at least somewhat
faster then notepad, so, in otherwords, I must admit that you do somewhat
better with the tools you have then do the C programmer that built
notepad. I swear to you that you should use RosAsm, and not waste your
precious time with HLA. Or do you use FASM now?
For me, it's about 90/10 HLA/FASM. FASM still lacks type-checking
facilities. As for RosAsm, as soon as the macros system is improved
with type checking for user defined types and it can generate object
code, I'll give it a serious spin.
