[ Kesys ..less secure open OS, where user can add code?]

No! I don't think this would be any good.
Oh, yes it would. :) Why not?

perhaps well educated low level programmers may add code,
but users? NEVER!

how will they become educated without the means to experiment?

He did say KESYS was for informed programmers, who atleast know
assembler. Beginners to programming can educate themselves on Linux or
Windows. You can do everything except privileged stuff. For the latter
a DOS boot floppy/DOSEmu or Bochs would suffice.

When I say low-level, it means a bit deeper than the usual
'Hello world'-asm or the HLL-library using programmers.
Knowledge of hardware-standards and the ability to read and
interprete binary files without too much asking is vital :)

Yes. I understand that. It *is* and operating system *and* it's only
source code is machine code. If you'd been contemporaries, you'd have
got along well with Mel. :)

The whole KESYS-core is just 128 KB 'large', but as it is
fully written in machine code (on KEMM85..HEXEDIT2005)
there never were any kind of source-code to share with others.

I think you may have put MenuetOS to shame :)

Over in AOD there many hints and links also for beginners.
Like "what do I need to start programming an own OS"

Thanks, but I've decided to put off my OS effort for a few years,
since I don't consider myself competent enough yet.
