Re: assembler / how to know the type of processor

i am working with a big network with very old machines (486, pentium

winXP, linux). i need to know which processor is runing and the speed,
but remotly, and without asking the remote operator.

i can compile a simple program for each system in order to sense these
data.

is it any test (assembler) of the micro, or data in cmos, where i can
take them?

Isn't it a much bigger problem to transfer the information to your computer
than to get the information on the target computer itself (how do you
access a MSDOS PC from your computer). Instead of writing a such a program
for any OS, you better store a text file on any system with the information
entered by hand.
