No clown. The limitations, in duration, of the patents validities
do exactly that. Not the patents. Nevertheless, in the in between
time, patents are crimes against humanity, and this is particulary
true and shocking in matter of medical researches, and in matter
of any activity which would touch cultures, like Software does.
I don't see what the problem is that privately funded corporations do
research that WOULDN'T BE DONE otherwise in the first place.
I wouldn't leave finding the cure for the cancer for public sector
alone, no way, things like this are way too important to not
*everyone* to have a motivation to solve the issue. For corporations
the motivation is primarily money, so what? They will pirate the
medicine in China or some place else anyway and sell for peanuts,
while the corporations also make a nice profit from other's misery.
While this may sound harsh, making profit out of others misery, you
cannot ignore tha fact that there *is* a cure for cancer in this
situation if it ever happened in the first place.
The long-term effect of even increasing lifespans and population will
create a hell of a lot more misery than cancer ever did. But that
assumes you take a broad look into the cause and effect in a long span
of time. It's not a very humane way of looking at things and I
generally do tend to think in terms of "my own ass", must be something
in the way I'm built (I can only sense my own thoughts and all that
crap).
