@p77g2000hsh.googlegroups.com:
I can't blame
Randy for not being in a hurry to write a swappable (internal) back
end for HLA v.2xx, but to be sure he avoids any crap over licenses
he'd better write one completely from scratch.
Again: YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION.
Thomasz will NEVER protest about the abuse of his work.
With failing to understand what you call a "conspiration theory",
you simply show that you are not aware of the reason why Thomasz
choose, deliberatly, to dishonor himself aside an individual like
Randall Hyde.
It is clear for everybody aware of these facts, that he proposed
using FASM that way, for playing the good old trick of the "troyan
horse". Randall puts his horse on fire, and all i can say about this
is:
Good for him. Thomasz got the result he had deserved.
Now on, the victims of Randall Hyde will not even _see_ that FASM
has been stolen and hidden inside HLA. So, the very true reason
why Thomasz did this vile action - re-using Master capacities at
selling himself, for selling FASM - is now gone. Good for him.
Now, why he will never protest, is also fully clear for the people
who know of Thomasz personaly: He is one of the most selfish and
proud guy, and he will never admit having been duped, at the duping
game, - _he_ started to play -, by professional swindler.

o you're basically saying that Tomasz dishonored (what or
however that may be???) himself cause he allowed Randy to
internalise Fasm as the back end for HLA. Sounds like
"guilty by association" to me, and that is generally
considered a fallacy. Allowing distinct ppl to use your
software in their projects for free is a generous offer,
and the only profit, if one could call it that way, would
be goodwill, and lifting on others' successes if their
projects turns out to be succesfull.
But let's consider your scenario of the "trade of the
trojan horse". That would mean that Tomazs is trying to
screw Randy over by allowing him to use his software. If
Randy goes along, he must abide to Tomazs' license. I can
think of 2 motives here: Tomazs is trying to take credit for
HLA or lift on its succes cause an internalised Fasm is
the back end, or Tomasz is trying to slow down or disable a
release of HLA in PD. Randy, in retaliation, would screw
Tomazs in return by removing any links to him, Fasm and
its license while still incorporating Fasm (source).
Quite frankly, that story won't fly for long. First,
as was mentioned before, using one other's assembler
for a prototype (which HLA v1.xx is) as a _temporary
solution_ is no bad at all. And remember that HLA already
has hit version 1.93, so HLA v2.xx isn't far off anymore.
Second, HLA v2.xx is going to be written in HLA v1.9x,
which means it will be assembled by Fasm the first time.
One reason is that the C/Flex/Bison combination turned
out to be a really bad choice for implementing an
assembler. If it's going to be a 100% complete rewrite,
including the object code emitter part aka back end as
well, then strictly, Fasm (source code) isn't needed or
used anymore once the assembly and bootstrapping process
of HLA v2.xx has finished. HLA v2.xx will be self-hosting
and one can swap the HLA v2.xx object code emitter with
Fasm, or any other assembler then. No need to "return
the lit trojan horse" as the HLA project is completely
separated from Fasm then. _If_ Randy decides to go that
way that is, but as HLA v2.xx will be released in PD, so
will be its source code, and therefore the complete
rewrite is most probable. After all, the source code
cannot contain parts from GPL'ed or Fasm'ed source
if it's going to be Public Domain. Do keep that, and especially
the last 10 lines, in mind.
