The phenomenon of global warming is acknowledged to exist beyond
doubt. You should refrain from insulting those whose views you don't
share. I agree that's it's a pipe dream to think about completely
replacing fossil fuels or deliberately stifling the economic engine,
to try to mitigate the effects of global warming. However a _lot_ more
than what governments are presently doing, can be done. I think that's
the main point of those who speak out on the issue.

They suggest using hydrogen fuel-cells -- but
what idiot is going to want one of those heavy suckers running their
weed-eater or chainsaw??

They're primarily meant for automobiles, whose emissions far outweigh
those of chain-saws or lawnmowers.

Also, hydrogen can't
lubricate the transmission gears... furthermore, you don't make
plastic out of hydrogen. Hydrogen simply cannot replace petroleum --
the perfect resource!

What a strawman argument! No one is saying hydrogen can replace all
uses of petroleum. However if it can replace one of the _major_ uses
of it, then that be of significant benefit, (not necessarily from the
POV of global warming).

People just have to get it through their
thick skulls that *some* things are always going to be with us.

I think most people do understand and accept this. However it can be
reduced to the extent that alternatives are developed and become
feasible. That reduction would doubtless be beneficial for the
environment and the economy.

Just because telegraph is still available, (and used a little), do we
use it for _all_ communications, eschewing improved methods?

Petroleum will always be central to our economy. Any
dream of easy replacements is just a pipe-dream.

You give up too easily! Is this what HLA use has done to you? ;-)
