@trndny02:

Linux is still the same ***
as it was 10 years ago, but things are progressing a little bit.

Which is it?

The Packages Installers are a bit better. Some (minor) steps
are done in the direction of a usable OS. A second gear-company
took example on Dell, recently (Ubuntu tu. Oooopppss: "too")
So, there might be a hope:

I also heard that Unbuntu Dev was payed by a rich man. I don't
know *who* he is, but if programmers are payed for making Linux
a usable system... why not? I first had hope that China would do
it, but it seems not.

I don't use sudo... If I try it, the bitch tells me I'm not in the
sudoers file - and threatens to rat me out! The sudoers file is in
/etc,
of course... but insists on being edited with a special editor(!) -
haven't tried it. I just "su", and "exit" when I'm done. I found out
from "man sudo" that it wants the *user* password, not the root
password. Makes sense, when I think about it, but I would have tried
the
root password, if I'd gotten that far.

I suppose that Ubuntu is a little bit better than other distros,
here. Sudo come with the Installers, and just wants _the_ Password.
This still makes me furious, but, well... as long as "***" is
accepted... :))

... For some reason, WINE makes me think of that story.

I need it before even thinking of porting RosAsm to Linux.

But it cannot associate
a given file to itself (???!!!...). Works fine, otherwize, even if i
still do not know *where* it is (!!!): Linux = the System that makes
the user free from his computer (!!!). :))

Ought to be where you put it, if you did "./configure
prefix=betovs/preferred/directory" before "make install". Try
/usr/local/share", as a wild-asmed guess - I think /usr/opt
(/usr/local/opt ?) may be the more "modern" version(?). "which wine"
ought to tell you where the executable is, at least.

I found them today. They are *Hidden Folders*, ... in the user
directory! Well... :)) You should be happy: "Hyde that *** from
my face!!!"... :))

"Packages installer" may be your problem. "make install", Betov, "make
install"! I'm not familiar with Ubuntu - I've always used Slackware
(for
no particular reason). At least it includes Nasm! I forget whether Biew
was included or if I installed it... I suppose you want a
pointee-clickee hex editor, though... My system includes GHex - seems
to
work...

Yes, i also found out "ghex" after some search time (...). Ugly,
but, well... it works. I saw NASM passing too.

As a whole, after 3 days of try, i think that the Ubuntu guys
are going into the proper direction. The system is still _far_
from usable, but it seems they are doing what must be done.
There are still Command Lines - which is utterly un-acceptable,
in an OS, on the user side -, but user-interfaces are progressing.
Still dramaticaly counter-intuitive, but better than before.

The system is still very slow, the Caret management is still
the same pathetic difficult thing, and so on... But, as the
Processors are getting now fast enough...

Ubuntu is still nowadays, a "Programmers' OS", but i suppose
that in a couple of years, correct interfaces will replace
almost all Command Lines, while Debian will go on doing the
real work... A little hope ahead... (You will not like it :).

Betov.
