Re: Nasm Error

I just encoutered the opportunity to install a free SUSE 10.3 version
(came with a printed monthly media). I hesitate to even try it out,
perhaps any voluntairs can give me an insight what this may contain ?

I tested SUSE 10.3. This is one of the best, coming with a quite
good identification of the gear. For example, on my Dell-Ubuntu,
for which Dell has been stupid enough for making it incompatible
with any Linux (not even the Distro they choosed - they finaly had
to provide patches for Ubuntu by themselves (the world up side
down...) - SUSE was the only one succeeding to get the Internet
connexion up and working, before the Dell patches.

Neverthess, i will never use SUSE because of the Novell-MicroSoft
agreement. How surprising, that SUSE is also one of the very
few Linux Distros, where WINE does not work out of the Box?
:))

The cleanest Distro i found out, has been Mandriva. Though, they
are runing for money for surviving (no Suttleworth behind...),
and they strategy for making a bit of money is a bit irritating,
and badly managed, in my opinion. The only real problem i got
with Mandriva was with the automatic updater that locks the
Applications Data-Base, making it practicaly unusable, unless
after demential manipulations (simpler to not do any update).

Which Distro will take the lead is not that much interresting,
but i think that this will be either Ubuntu or Mandriva. The
young people seem to prefer Ubuntu. I fail to understand the
reason why, because, to my taste, it is shocking uggly (visually)
and not as good (technically) than Mandriva. Though, i am not
a good tester because, on one hand, i hate the Linux basic
concepts (fascist file system, demential user rigths, user
deprived of his computer, ...), and, on the other hand, i did
the mistake of buying a Dell PC for evaluating the Linuxes,
and the guys driving the Linux market at Dell are utterly
un-competent. Most of the problems i got while shouting at
Linux, were not because of Linux but because of Dell.

Thanks Rene, even I'm now less sure what I should think about
L'unix in general :)
Perhaps I sacrify one of my old PCs for Linux tests only ...
and then create my own 'open binary'-distro.
Well, a disgusting idea but why not ? :)
