"Rs" asked:
....
here my radiation counter says that there is something wrong
the normal background for the instrument should be
4-20 CPM (counts for minutes)
here is always
20-50 CPM the "media" is 33CPM
My instrument (a very old X-tal on Photo-multiplier) says 60..100 DpM
(decays per minute) to expect from space radiation and the average 'is'
about 85. Still ~900 with my 30 year old Barium calibrator probe.
But if I close the shutter it reports just 0..2.
they should be beta or gamma rays
the count seems depend from the day of measuring it is like
it depend from where came the wind
is it possible the instrument radiactive?
Yes, some metal parts tend to become contaminated after a while.
Clean it and cover it with 2 inch lead to calibrate it to Zero.
Or try it in a deep subway tunnel ...
