Yes, I did (afterwards that is). And yes, my video-card can handle that
mode (and betters).

Update : it looks like setting the Video-modus is not enough. It appears
that a call to int 10h, ax=4F05h (set Window address) is needed too, before
*anything* can be written to the screen. My idea that INT 21h is to blame
was a bit premature ...
