how to run a dot matrix display by using 74HC374 driver and 8086 as controller

i/m using 5x7 dot matrix displays...i used bxd to simulate the program
but the problem is i don't know how to write the program...the program
is to display emoticon figure such as smiling face,straight face and
sad face...the program will start if press 01, the smile face will
appear on the dot matrix display, else press 02 or 03 to display other
faces...there no end in the program.what i'm confusing is how to write
the program and run it by using bxd.
how to write the data since the dot matrix display has cathode and
anode. it must be appear on the same time.i use port a to initialize
the column and port b to initialize the row....but how to write it,that
is my problem...can you show me the example of the program???all your
cooperation is highly appreciated.thank you very much...
