First, I would like to thank the Win32ASM Project Development Team for
their support of, and contributions to, this package. I would also like
to thank the rest of the community, for supporting this place :)
----->Website<-----
The Win32ASM project website can be found at
http://www.asmcommunity.net/projects/win32asm/. You will find more
specific information at that website, this thread is merely a "get to
know you" thread.
----->What is Win32ASM?<-----
The Win32ASM Project is this ASM Community's "codename" for our
multi-assembler Win32 assembly language development package. This
initiative was started about 1.5 years ago, by Paul Brennick and Erol
Ojalvo, and it has grown into a community-wide effort. The package
centers around the use of MASM 6.15, in which the Microsoft Corporation
has kindly given us permission to redistribute MASM 6.15 (ml.exe) with
this package. The package is extended into the claimed
"multi-assembler" status by the equivalent support of NASM.
We chose the project name of "Win32ASM", as Win32ASM is the heritage of
this community, and so will it be the basis of our package.
----->Isn't this kind of like MASM32?<-----
For those familiar with Stephen Hutchesson's MASM32 package, you will
have a seemless transition in getting comfortable with the Win32ASM
Package. MASM32 utilizes MASM 6.14, which is a slightly older version
than the 6.15 version that is included in our package.
There is a history of reasons as to our development of Win32ASM, as
opposed to continually supporting MASM32. The primary reason, is that
the developers of the Win32ASM Project/Package know that they can do
better in actively improving and supporting Win32ASM based programming.
----->So, is the Win32ASM Project trying to compete with MASM32?<-----
Our influence and motivation in improving/supporting the MASM32 package
has dwindled over the years, for and amongst various reasons. The
details of those reasons are now unimportant, as this result is the
bottom-line.
If people wish to label our desire to *provide something better* as
"competition", then so be it. Our focus is on the continual improvement
of Win32ASM Package, which is the only means of measurement for our
progress/success, that we use.
----->What makes this package better?<-----
Documentation: To simply put it, we are in an on-going effort to
efficiently and thoroughly document the entire project. We believe this
factor to be a crucial difference between a "usable" package, and a
user/programmer-friendly one.
Examples: Improved Win32ASM examples, provides programmers with the
extended references they need to ease their programming task.
Tutorials: An improved version of Iczelion's famous Win32ASM Tutorials
provides a level of ease to programmers of all levels. The tutorials
come with a master index page equipped with a search function. Each
tutorial has been tailored to demonstrate Win32ASM programming methods
while using the Win32ASM Package.
Tools: MASM 6.15, Pelle's Tools, and other various user-contributed
tools combine to make this package a Win32ASM programming power-house.
Libraries: Source code and functions that go beyond standard Win32 API
function calls, are a must. The Win32ASM Library (win32asm.lib) is the
star of this package, as well as the most active and on-going process
in the entire package.
Feedback: We absolutely encourage any and all types of feedback.
Comments/criticisms/suggestions/additions/changes/etc... we need it.
Without feedback, we cannot give the programmers what they want/need.
----->Anything else to know?<-----
Nope, everything else is in the Win32ASM Project and its supporting
Documentation.
The only thing left to do is to download the package
(http://www.asmcommunity.net/projects/win32asm/download.html), have fun
with it, and post your feedback in the Win32ASM Project Forum
(http://www.asmcommunity.net/board/index.php?board=108.0)... it will be
very much appreciated :)
Any word on when assember writers will start supporting 64bit extensions
as in AMD64/EM64T?
thanks....
.
