Re: Can WXP handle 4 GB of Physical Memory

I presume that PCI space is Peripheral Component Interconnect space?

Umm, yes, but I haven't heard anyone use the expansion of the acronym in
quite a long time. PCI is generally unambiguous.

I am curious? How do I find which motherboards have which size of PCI
space?

There's no way to tell without getting your hands on one, and even then
it's not easy.

In particular, my son has suggested the ASUS P5B (plain vanilla - not
extra or anything added)
motherboard since it seems to satisfy most, probably all, of my goals
for a system which will run
32-bit WXP. My primary requirement is a 32-bit application which I run
at present under
W98SE. Thus far, I have spent a couple of hours attempting to determine
if there is a reference
to the PCI space size, but no luck at all! If this motherboard has a
PCI space of greater than
0.5 GB, can anyone suggest a similar motherboard which has a 0.5 PCI
space or smaller?

In my experience, most motherboards use a PCI hole of 1GB or less. If you
really need 4GB of physical memory, then run Windows Server 2003 64-bit or
Vista 64-bit. Your 32-bit app will still work.
