I have just gotten the sad news that Chuck Crayne - moderator of this
group, and important contributor to Nasm - has passed away. My
sympathies and best wishes to his family and friends. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Chuck.
Besides his many other activities, Chuck devoted untold thousands of unpaid
hours to moderating this newsgroup. Amidst the usual array of insults,
rumors, myths, half-truths, and inflated egos that one finds on a Usenet
newsgroup, Chuck was a quiet and accurate voice of reason.
Chuck had been having persistent back pain, and a CAT scan showed spinal
cancer. He was admitted to the hospital, but died of cardiac problems
while being transferred to intensive care.
Here is a link to his obituary in the Willits (California) News:http://m.willitsnews.com/willits/db_11243/contentdetail.htm?contentgu...
Besides his interest in programming and railroading, Chuck was also a big
player in running science fiction conventions:http://file770.com/?p=853
I presume the posts we are now seeing are all from people with automatic
approval in the moderation front-end. I don't know the procedure for
transitioning to a new moderator, but I presume someone is investigating
this.

Yep, I read that horrible news too, and I'm still sad within these
days. Chuck had a very great attitude, and so, a great character. I
never forget the times we were discussing on technology news and we
both were all willing to keep on discussing. Rest in peace chuck.
