we have stretched the topicality enough - for this group :-)]

| Correct. Nice thing with Redhat and Fedora (and lots of others) is they
| have this dinky icon which tells you when there are updates available.
| Click on it and let the machine do the rest while you get on with
| important things.

That has been a feature of Windows for some time now :-).

| Good. You're more an exception than a rule. There are two problems - some
| of the patches don't work (look at sp4 for W2K and 3D studio max and a

The aim of a patch is to fix the O/S.

If 3D Studio Max was broken because of it, then that is
unfortunate, and can really can happen under different
O/S's as well.

Btw - 'Lightwave 3D' is the King :-).

|
| I agree, except for one thing - it's not the Unix community hacking MS
| products - it's MS users. Most in the unix community don't have the
| indepth knowledge of Windows to be able to do more than a rudimentary r00t

Well, I didn't say it was the *nix* community doing
the hacking, but rather because of it's(MS) popularity,
it is a much larger target, and more glamorous amongst
the hacking community.

| Why not? I also didn't say it would only be me.

Well, you were the one attending the interview :-).

| Not from when I've played on it using a 3.2GHz mega stonk of a box...
| Horrible is an understatement of monolithic proportions.

I have not yet had the pleasure to have a play around with it,
but don't count your chickens before they hatch - I have heard
some very good reports about it, and you have to remember, that
it is still in beta, and one to two years away from hitting the
shelves - a lot will improve by then.

Cheers.
