While it probably doesn't hurt to look at the opinions at Amazon.com,
it's certainly best to take them with a grain of salt. First of all,
it's fairly well known that a fair number of "opinions" posted on
Amazon come from people with a vested interest in their opinions being
believed. Second, even when the opinion is sincere, it doesn't
necessarily mean much, especially when it comes to technical material
-- when you're looking for opinions on technical books, one of the
first questions you need to ask is whether the person has the
technical qualifications to make their opinion meanngful and valid.

Schildt's books make this particularly critical: anybody who doesn't
know C or C++ well is likely judge his books excellent -- he's a very
good expository writer and is very good at making a subject clear and
easy to understand. The problem is that what he teaches so well is
simply wrong. This combination makes it easy for many people to give
their perfectly honest (but perfectly misinformed) opinions that his
books are some of the best in the business, an opinion that is
directly at odds with reality.
