Hi all,
I would like to start learning C++ however I would appreciate some
help pointing me in the right direction.
I would like to starting learning C++ as cheaply as possible so I do
not want to purchase any commercial software such as Visual Studio.
I already have a license for EditPlus and it seems to be a good enough
editor to start learning C++ with and I have downloaded several free
compilers such as MingGW, DGJPP, Digital Mars and Microsoft Visual C++
Toolkit 2003. I am looking for a good book to get me going and some
good online resources, here being an obvious one :)
I have had a look on Amazon and there are so many books with 5 stars
it is hard to make a decision so I thought I would ask here as I hope
i get replies from real, long time C++ programmers who know a good
book.
I have done some complex[ish] batch files and basic C programming a
while back so I would need a book that also teaches OOP as well as I
have never read anything about OOP. It would probably be safer to say
I have zero programming background. I also have limited binary
knowledge so it would probably be good to cover that also :)
I appologise to everyone who hates these kinds of posts and thanks to
everyone in advance for your input.
