The same could be said for top-posting. "What's the problem? The
text I'm replying to is all there!"
Even though my newsreader properly threads articles (assuming that
the poster's properly includes the proper header lines), why should
I have to switch back and forth between the reply and the message
it was replying to? And, if the original message made several points
(as is quite often the case), then which point(s) are you answering?
This also assumes that the original message has actually arrived at
my newsserver prior to my reading the reply, and that it hasn't yet
expired.
It's no better than a message which says "there are several possible
causes of your problem, A, B, or C, and there are several possible
solutions which are X, Y, and Z", and replying with "thanks, that
solved it".
