Hi all,
I would like to know how all of you learned C.
Was it books, Internet, human mentor, class or other?

charles.....
Learned the pre-ANSI version in college on VAX/VMS (circa 1986). Our
CS department switched from using Pascal to C for the intro classes
the very semester I started, so none of the professors or grad
students had a solid grasp on the language they were trying to teach.
It was ugly. A third of my class *changed majors* because they had so
much trouble understanding C.
Fortunately, I bought the second edition of "C: A Reference Manual" on
a whim, which turned out to be one of the better references available,
and it helped me get through those first few semesters.
Three editions later it's still my primary C reference, although I'm
not doing a whole lot of C programming anymore.
However, comp.lang.c did play an important role in my continuing
education when I graduated and started working for a living. Nothing
like having a bunch of hyper-anal pedants dogpile you to make you pay
attention to what you're doing. I think I learned more from reading
this group than I did from most textbooks.
