Granted. Notice I'm not calling you unhelpful, as you did to me
in the current thread "Linux system call to retrieve process
status"?
You've been suggesting in the past that people can't point out any
incorrect advice you have given, well, here is an example.
Not true. It's easy to point out incorrect advice given by anyone on
this newsgroup, including me. The suggestion was actually incorrect
advice *that went uncorrected and could have misled people*. That was
in response to those saying I'm deliberately misleading people and
posing a danger.
Oh, and as you consider me to be one of the "regs" I could consider some
of the exchanges between you and Kenny as insulting to me, exchanges
where the last response was yours agreeing with Kenny.
Which post? You'll note that when you asked me to supply a post
saying you had killfiled me, I admitted to having gotten you
mixed up -- that you had only said that others had killfiled me.
I hope you'll either present the post that you consider insulting
or retract the above statement.
So you have been
insulting towards me before I have been insulting towards you since you
offered your challenge. So I see no reason not to go back to ignoring
you most of the time (I don't use a killfile, and reserve the right to
read and respond if I feel so inclined).
I haven't insulted you at all. In fact, if you look in the aforementioned
thread "Linux system call to retrieve process status", you'll see I've been
polite to you while you've been rude to me. Here you are being rude
to me again in this thread.
And what challenge are you referring to? I offered a deal that had a
small set of rules, and none of those rules have been met. Nobody came
forward as a neutral judge to monitor who would insult the other first,
which was my first rule. Nobody chided Thompson, Heathfield, or Falconer
when they insulted me first, which was another rule. No two people
mentioned in the post agreed to the deal, which was another rule. In
fact, nobody even replied to my post or acknowledged it in any way at
all. Here's the post for those wondering what this is about:
<8869c1553ee681ea284b562f24ad3242@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
And here were the rules:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
* There has to be a neutral judge (or judges) agreeing to my
proposal.
* At least two of the people I mentioned above must agree to my
proposal. Note that this doesn't mean they have to read my posts.
* For the first two weeks, if anyone in the "crowd" insults me first,
I won't insult back, provided that both the neutral judge and at least
one of the people in the "crowd" scolds the person insulting and
informs them of this deal, just in case it was missed.
* After the first two weeks, if anyone insults me first, this
deal is off for that person, and I will continue insulting that
person whenever I like until he pledges a new deal.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
So as far as I'm concerned, that proposal was never agreed to.
What is active is my willingness to "live and let live" with topicality.
I won't insult people performing newsgroup redirections, and I expect
them not to insult me if I decide to answer the so-called off-topic
posts. And you'll see I haven't been insulting people performing
newsgroup redirections since the "live and let live" idea was
floated.
I'm happy to have the deal of not insulting others first, but we need a
neutral judge who can stir a little commotion when violations occur,
someone who's respected as a rational figure and can say "Look, he's
starting trouble!" Otherwise, if I'm insulted first, it would just be
me saying "Look, I was insulted first!" (as I have been doing with
Thompson, Heathfield, and Falconer), and nobody would give a damn. We
need someone who can make it uncomfortable to violate the deal. I asked
for such people to present themselves, but nobody did. I would actually
be happy with someone like James playing that role, if he can get over
the killfile thing he has going.
Yours,
Han from China
