Re: why I cannot stop this loop at 50 points? (code)

Heh, heh. I can't recall ever having had this much fun on a newsgroup.
I now truly understand what the old-time French philosophers meant by
turning bewilderment about absurdity into laughter. I have never in
my life encountered a group of people who are so unintentionally
absurd and so unintentionally funny. As you once said, you can't buy
this kind of amusement for any price. (I've almost been in tears with
the "Float comparison" thread. It's the reason that I no longer
bother replying to CBFalconer's posts. I simply can't be frustrated
anymore with a guy whose unintentional comedy act has provided me
with so much laughter. It's a debt I owe him of sorts.)

Anyway, this is the sort of diversion that happens every time we
make Heathfield or Thompson look dumb.

Heathfield was shown to be recommending non-portable code, which he
wasn't aware of.

Thompson then tried defending his buddy Heathfield with the hypocritical
"in practice" argument, but thanks to the omniscient Larry Jones, that
argument got gunned down with a reference to SAS/C for the IBM mainframe,
which in itself was priceless irony.

As for Phil Carmody, we should bear in mind that Phil has no idea
what I've said on this newsgroup, because by his on-the-record statements,
he killfiled me within my first week or so on this newsgroup and has
read neither my posts nor any replies to my posts. Of course, only a
bitter "math professor" like Carmody who didn't quite make his mark on
the world before his time was up would see no contradiction there, just
as he saw no contradiction between saying that he can killfile replies
to people on sci.crypt but can't do so on comp.lang.c. Carmody should
have a read of Hardy's _A Mathematician's Apology_, realize his time is
up and his youth is lone gone, and take a fresh approach in his remaining
days with another pursuit in which he has a chance of leaving a legacy,
such as origami or urinal design.

Yours,
Han from China
