I thought someone suggested strcpy[0] = '\x00'.
Someone else addressed the other problems with your article, but this
one appears to have been overlooked. The expression is meaningless.
Many incompetent programmers are unconstitutionally incapable of
interpretation. You started a lot of trouble in 2002 by literally
interpreting some code examples posted to make a point, and it
resulted in vicious letters to my publisher from the people you
enabled, letters which were ignored for the same reason we try to
ignore people who show up with "don't tread on me" signs at town
meetings.
In other words, you hold a personal grudge against Richard Heathfield..
It's inclusive of n>0 personal grudges, but I'm afraid it's based on
his abuse of this newsgroup, which I'm not alone in having identified.
This grudge has brought you to comp.lang.c, where you would not
otherwise participate, and you chose to become the very bully that you
claim he is, simply to fuel your petty need for revenge.
If you did due diligence on all the posts since 2000, which my
attorney may do, you will discover that the following sequence of
events occurs
(1) Richard initiates personal attacks on me and on others, impugning
their professional qualifications based on limited and questionable
grounds
(2) Richard holds conversations with others in the presence of the
victim (conversations that would be the height of rudeness at a party
or a professional conference) about the victim's defects.
(3) Some of the marked victims reply professionally and collegially to
the attacks only to have behaviors 1 and 2 recur
(4) Some of the victims reply like men, not having been socialized by
the corporation to take it up the ass
(5) It then appears that the victims are the trouble-makers, because
people naturally treat the posts as a semi-LIFO stack
You have my pity, because when you seek revenge at any cost (throwing
away ideals, hurting everyone around you, etc...) pity is all you
deserve.- Hide quoted text -
Do your homework.
I'm aware of the sequence of events, but thank you for assuming that
because I disagree with your tactics, I'm completely ignorant of the
situation. Do you understand why I pity you now? You see everything as
an attack and everyone as an enemy, and reply in kind. You act as if
you're superior to everyone else and then seem to wonder why nobody
supports you.
I am long since wondering that, Julienne. I'd simply point out that
except in the most nasty of business offices, people don't engage in
the sort of behavior found here (globally questioning a person's right
to contribute based on de minimis input, attacking a person's
grammatical ability as a postmodern fault in preference to speaking to
the issue, carrying on offensive conversations in a person's presence
with third parties).
I was at Princeton university but as an employee in the early days of
networks and the Internets, and what I saw was the unthinking, and
therefore unfeeling, adoption of certain Baby Boomer assumptions and
themes in online discussions.
One of them was a sort of misbegotten "authenticity", in which common
courtesy went out the window, coupled with a sort of peace and love
inability to defend oneself thought to be a virtue, with the result
that Baby Boomer cults of the 1970s, and networks by the 1980s, became
dominated by thugs and loudmouths.
comp.lang.c used to be a fantastic newsgroup, completely focused on
informative and productive discussions of C by intelligent and
knowledgeable people, but now the group has degenerated into flames
and the only worth is from archives. Quite a shame, really, and you're
helping to accelerate the rot.- Hide quoted text -
How strange, since prior to recently I didn't contribute, but when I
got here the newsgroup was full of spam and garbage. It seems to me
that you want me to be your scapegoat for your own failure to control
this newsgroup, a failure usually constituted by the failure to come
to the aid of the victim, not of "trolling", but of bullying, esp.
male-on-male bullying from which women avert their eyes with a sniff.
