Nobody, myself included, mentioned formal logic. (Your statement is an
example of a red herring.)
Logical flaws (logical fallacies, flaws in reasoning) do apply to
informal logic and thus to the arguments in this thread.

Another red herring. No one implied a probe for "universal" truth.
However, the guidelines of logic and argumentation are useful for any
debate such as this one. They help us all to avoid common fallacies
and focus instead on making sounds arguments and using sound reasoning
rather than slinging poorly constructed thoughts around. And thus they
expedite our search for a "coherent" truth and mutual understanding.

I agree completely. To do so would be an example of argumentum ad
logicam. This is an example why awareness of basic logical fallacies
is important for all of us engaged in debate.

There are a number of excellent resources regarding logic (informal is
what I have in mind of course) and the common fallacies. I recommend
brushing up on them as I think you will find them a most useful aid in
reasoning.
