J4, the ANSI-ish COBOL Standards group has received a "document" for discussion
at their next meeting.
Given many previous "discussions" in the IBM-MAIN and comp.lang.cobol newsgroups
(list-servers), I thought some of you might want to read this *AND* send your
comments, thoughts, whatever on the topic to be included in the discussion. To
read the full document (please ignore some of the typos and grammar problems),
go to:
http://www.cobolportal.com/j4/files/03-0270.doc
To send your comments for consideration, do NOT reply "here" but send them to
Don Schricker, the J4 chair at:
Don.Schricker <at> microfocus.com
Please NOTE WELL:
The "features" that are intended for the next (2008) ANSI/ISO COBOL Standard
have already been FROZEN, so do *not* include in any notes on this paper a
"please include this in the next Standard" requests. To see what features WILL
be in the next Standard, see:
http://www.cobolportal.com/j4/files/03-0175.doc
and look for
"Required in Next Revision"
those items in
"Pending Investigation by J4"
may or may NOT making into the 2008 Standard (depending upon what the
investigation show"
Please be aware, this "list" of features for the next COBOL Standard was
determined by the international COBOL working group (WG4) and not by J4 or any
group of individuals or vendors. For changes in "priorities" for the 2008
Standard or ideas for features to be included in some COBOL Standard after that,
contact your "national standards body".
