   After the database developer solved the Y2K problem, not before.

   I'm quite sure, although my memory might cheat me, that when I
worked in 1994, ten years ago, in a mainframe shop using COBOL and
ESQL to access a RDMS, I had disputes with my colleages who stored
calender dates in the database as 6 digit entities, while I insisted
that it should be 8 digits - a DATE-TIME datatype of the RDMS was only
announced to arrive with the next release.

   My colleagues argument was that the legal basis for the programmes
would be lifted anyway one or two years from there ... I don't know
what happened after that, since I was there only for one year.

   The mainframe vendor had already handed out to all its customers a
booklet on the preparations for Y2K...
