It originally derives from Data General ICOBOL of around 1978-9.
Definitely green-screen stuff & definitely should have become a
USE-procedure-based event-driven thing in COBOL-2002. I did some work on
a prototype for this about 1992 so we are really a terribly long way
behind the state of the art now.
