The only reason I know of this 'mistake' is because I have made it,
myself... reading the Editor documentation may provide you with many
useful tips, tricks and techniques.

Such politesse deserves a freebie... look into option 10 (Automatic
Recovery) and learn to, reflexively, type RECOVER ON whenever you edit a
dataset.
