Granted that the original posting was two simple, nominative sentences;
the conclusion I drew from them was that the OP was looking for someone
who had a particular set of professional skills. It was my intention, as
usual, to inform that if one seeks professional skills then one might do
so more successfully when one offers a rate, or range of rates, associated
with the position(s) offered.

If the OP is looking for a consultant then it might help in the search
even more to mention a rate.

I think that what I did was not throat-jumping; it was a polite request
(notice the 'please') and the reasons one might do well to follow it.

You mean
<http://groups.google.com/group/alt.cobol/msg/8fe9858a46194a8c?dmode=source&hl=en>?
This is also crossposted to alt.cobol, balt.jobs, md.jobs,
news.groups.lang.cobol and va.jobs.

If they had been then it was not by me; I responded to their posting
<http://groups.google.com/group/alt.cobol/msg/32d9ad64ce7f0ff3?dmode=source&hl=en>
with the same boilerplate I give everyone.

(Interesting, though, that they've been posting this same position since 6
Feb 05 (back then as an 'Excellent COBOL/Oracle Oppertunity (sic)', then
as a an 'Excellent COBOL/Web Oppertunity (sic)', then as a 'Lawson
Developer (MicroFocus COBOL & Web)'... and others) and only on 19 Sep 05
did they make mention of a rate.)
