Not as many as generally perceived. Incest is mainly advantage to
societies - Egyptian royalty didn't seem to have genetic disadvantages
from it. Various domestic breeds are inbred, as well as endangered
animals, with fewer problems than we would think.
The advantages to our distaste of incest are mainly social. It is
interesting that the strongest taboos against incest are in isolated
places such as Easter Island. In the U.S. we don't even get too
wound up about first cousin marriages - it just doesn't happen enough
to make a difference in our widely mobile society.
